Thrifting as a Quiet Act of Rebellion

    By Suzanne

In my opinion there is something beautifully subversive about thrifting. In a world constantly nudging us to buy more, faster and newer, well it all makes my head spin. On the other hand, thrifting seems to ask us to slow down, look closer, and choose intentionally.

Is it trendy? I am not sure. I am sure it is thoughtful.

Thrifting aligns perfectly with my third pillar, unapologetic style. It encourages creativity over conformity. It gets you out of the “keep up” mindset. It definitely values story, quality, and individuality.

When you thrift, you are not buying an outfit. YOU ARE DISCOVERING AN OUTFIT.

It is good to be aware that FAST FASHION has consequences. Yes it does. I challenge you to consider the following issues, environmental, ethical and emotional. Thrifting offers a gentle alternative that feels empowering rather than restrictive.

Thrifting quietly says, I don’t need excess to feel stylish. I value craftsmanship, history, tradition and creativity. I chose consciously, not compulsively.

The joy of the hunt and the excitement of finding something fabulous at a fraction of the price…that is Rebellious Aging.

Thrifting is definitely a different type of experience. It requires staying power and invites PATIENCE. Curiosity. Play. Achievement. SUCCESS.

Some days you find nothing. Other days you find MAGIC.

When you wear something secondhand, there is freedom in knowing you didn’t buy it to impress. You bought it because it felt right.

A Rebel Question. The next time you shop, ponder the following question. Does this feel aligned with who I want to be? Who I am becoming? (Works for closets, also.)

    Thrifting is not about scarcity.

It is about intention. And that never goes out of style.
